I was a video coordinator with Kelly Gaul for football games. I still remember coming out of the locker room (we called it "The Shrinehold") with my Bulldog Brothers for the Davenport West game and seeing the wide-eyed look on the youngsters. They respected our intensity, ferocity, and velocity.
I will always remember those days watching my brothers behind the camera lens dominate on the gridiron. |

for the 1960 squad reunion, but there are times in our lives that what we want doesn't happen.
It was an honor to have such great teammates and coaches who went further than just a job
with us young men. I feel sorry for young adults today that don't take
the time to experience what we had. |

| Comments: | I didn't graduate from Bettendorf but I remember playing DB against Tavian Banks in the 7th grade before moving to Bloomington, IL. At any rate, he ran over the strong safety
(Andrew Haines and broke his ribs) and was so quick to his left that I think I caught his left ankle only. What an awesome tradition BHS football has. Someday I will show my 2 year old son this sight for inspiration!!!

This site is indeed great. Had the pleasure of showing this to a few colleagues at work. I especially enjoyed the famed Tavian vs. Dwight run in the playoffs where Dwight whiffed. What a game! Some of my fondest memories are of Bettendorf football, both playing and of the hilarious things that would come out of Hab's and Randy's mouths... Living around the Des Moines area, whenever high school football is the topic of conversation I hear many comments about the great program at Bettendorf. There are many schools who can have a championship team, but very few who can sustain the success Bettendorf has year after year. I signed this guestbook a while back and now that our football season is well under way I'd just like to honor all the fans that come out and see the Bulldogs do damage to the MAC and State. Last year when I let up my guard and Willie Argo (Assumption) blew past me and scored on our Homecoming I vowed that wouldn't happen again. I'm thankful Bettendorf has taken last years difficult season and turned it around to take us straight to State, where we will most likely win. Go Dogs! I love this site! Yeah!

Great to see that Bettendorf has become know as the dominate football program in the State of Iowa. This shows how great the athletic talent is at Bettendorf, not only in football but other sports also. It also shows how great the coaching staffs are and how they work with all that talent.
I love the fact that I was associated with Bettendorf Football and able to play on the first undefeated State Championship team. I look forward every year to going to games and supporting the team. One thing that was always great about playing for Bettendorf... nobody, I mean NOBODY, has better fans than Bettendorf, even when we travel it's great to see Bettendorf bring more fans than the home team.

Although I really never played varsity football for the Dogs, I was able to attend some of the games when I didn't have bowling tournaments. I really think that the Dogs were the team to beat my senior year and they played some nice football. I just wanted to say that the best memories I have of Bettendorf Football really have little to do with me: Watching Scott Downs and Sok Hon Yi run down on a kickoff, Rebro knocking off that RB's helmet in the final (The fans went crazy. I went crazy.), Merv stories, Robbie Furne tackling players in the semi-finals despite having what seemed to be a concussion, Tavian Banks running against Assumption and Iowa City High (all the games), walking down "the hill", workout sessions with Freking ... the list goes on. I wish the rest of you the best of luck. Great site. But where are all the pictures of me? Forget Furne and Ranum. Ha. It was great seeing Reggie Speak's name -- that reminds me of the time I broke my finger in a game and Mr. Speak set it for me right on the sideline. That thing hurt. But hey--the game must go on. Thanks Reggie. The finger's fine--by the way. Ha! |
