surprise, Bettendorf's dominating defense--which posted 7 shutouts including 2 in the playoffs while only allowing 5.8 points per game--had 3 players named to the 1st team. Congrats to the following players:

Randy Scott
to be inducted into Hall of Fame
November 17,
2010
This Friday during halftime of the Class 4A state championship game, former
Bettendorf Head Coach Randy Scott will be inducted into the Iowa High
School Football Hall of Fame. Prior to Scott leading the Bulldogs from
2000-07, Scott was an assistant under former Head Coach Merv Habenicht
from 1976-99. In 2000, Randy then assumed head coaching duties until he
retired from coaching in 2007. During his tenure, Bettendorf compiled a
record of 85-12 while winning the 2004 and 2007 4A titles. The Bulldogs
also won 4 conference titles under Scott while also qualifying for the playoffs
8 consecutive times in which they won 19/25 games. Also notable is Scott's
2000 and 2002 squad's who finished as the State Runners-up and both the 2001 and
2006 teams advanced to the Semifinals. Randy joins former Bettendorf
Head Coach Merrit Parsons (1955-66) as well as Habenicht (1971-99) in the
Hall of Fame which makes Bettendorf one of the elite schools in the state with 3
different Hall of Fame football coaches. Congratulations to Coach Scott!

Bettendorf
Bulldogs drops
semifinal game to Iowa City High Little Hawks, 21-7, end with 12-1 record
November 5,
2010
The Bettendorf Bulldogs goal of winning an eighth Class 4A state championship
ended with a 21-7 semifinal defeat at the hands of Iowa City High Little Hawks.
Although Bettendorf--who ended the season 12-1--took a 7-0 lead at at the end of
the 1st quarter. Although Bettendorf's record-setting defense held City
High in check for nearly 22 minutes, just prior to halftime the Little Hawks
responded with their own score to tie the game 7-7. In the 3rd quarter
Iowa City took a 14-7 and then during the final period turned one of their own
muffed punts into a 66-yard touchdown score to take a 21-7 lead. Although
the Bulldog's season is over, it certainly was a successful one for them in many
regards including a defense that recorded 7 shutouts while the team joined the
1987 squad with the second-most ever wins in school history. Props go out
to Head Coach Aaron Wiley and the entire coaching staff as well as all of the
players, managers, and helpers for a successful 2010 season.
Bettendorf
Dome-bound with 14-7 victory
November 5,
2010
#4-ranked Bettendof improved their record to 12-0 with a 14-7 victory over Cedar
Rapids Kennedy who fell to 7-5. The Bulldogs led at halftime, 7-0, and
took a 14-0 lead in the third quarter. As they have the entire season, the
Dawg's defense stood tough and only had one breakdown on Kennedy's lone score, a
49-yard pass reception touchdown. Kennedy's defense also showed how good
they were with several goal-line stands in the 1st quarter. Bettendorf now
travels to the UNI-Dome to play in the Semifinals next Friday at 4:30 pm against
defending state champion Iowa City High (12-0) who defeated Cedar Falls 49-28.

Bettendorf's
defense has focused spotlight
November 1,
2010
Long-time Bettendorf Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator Dave Hodam
used to say, "O's the show but D's the key!" and how can you argue with a man
who helped Bettendorf win 4 state titles? This season, Bettendorf's
defense has set a new team record by pitching 7 shutouts while only allowing a
4A best of 47 total points this season (which works out to 4.3 points per game).
However, all that aside, make no mistake about the 2010 Bulldogs who are still
smarting from their 2009 Substate loss and best articulated by All-State
Lineman Brodie Berry '11 prior to this season:
"Last year's loss still hurts as much now as it did then. Our goal is
winning State, it
always is. We're not messing with the MAC. We're going through the
MAC and trucking everyone." Enough said; to read a recent the Quad City Times article
about Bettendorf's defense, click HERE.

2010
The Bettendorf Bulldogs remained undefeated and improved their record to 11-0
with a 27-0 shutout of the Dubuque Hempstead Mustangs who finished the 2010

Runner-up North Scott (9-2); the Quarterfinal game will be in Cedar Rapids at
Kingston Stadium.
Bulldogs
blank Waterloo East, 20-0, advance to 2nd Round of Playoffs versus Hempstead
October 27,
2010
Bettendorf improved their record to 10-0 by shutting out Waterloo East, 20-0, on
a cold and windy night during the 1st Round of the Class 4A playoffs. The
shutout was the Bulldogs' sixth of the season and the offense and the offense,
despite the weather, got the job done. The Bulldogs next taken on the
Mustangs of Dubuque Hempstead (8-2) who were 14-13 winners over Cedar Rapids
Washington. All-time, the Dawgs are 8-1 against Hempstead and the first
time the two teams met in the playoffs was in 1980 in the 1st Round contest in
which Bettendorf won, 20-14, in overtime. Congrats to the Dawgs and good
luck Monday!
Bettendorf
conducts business as usual with 35-0 win over Muscatine to complete season
unbeaten; faces Waterloo East in 1st Round of Playoffs
October 22,
2010
The Bettendorf Bulldogs collected their 22nd conference championship as well as
their 15th undefeated regular season with a 35-0 win over Muscatine to improve
to 9-0. The Dawgs' defense not only limited the Muskies to 75-yards of
offense, but also gave Muscatine their first shutout of the season.
To read the Quad City Times article about the game, click HERE. Bettendorf
now will host the Class 4A 1st Round Playoff game against Waterloo East (3-6)
next Wednesday. Historically speaking, this is the first time the two
schools have ever met on the grid iron.
Dawgs run
wild in 48-7 victory over River Kings
October 15,
2010
The Bettendorf Bulldogs remained undefeated as they improved their record to 8-0
with a 48-7 blasting of the Clinton River Kings. Although the Bulldogs
scored on their first play of the game with a 45-yard pass, they spent the rest
of the night pounding the ball on the ground while the defense, recovered from
their poor performance last week against Davenport Central, only allowed Clinton
a mere 8 yards rushing.

Bulldogs
overcome Blue Devils to win 31-24, improve to 7-0 to stay atop M.A.C.
October 8,
2010
For the first time since 1990, Bettendorf found themselves in an unfamiliar
position against Davenport Central: trailing. Although the Bulldogs
took a 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter, Central rattled off 24 straight points and
by the 3rd quarter, owned a commanding 24-7 lead. However, the Dawgs then
scored 24 unanswered points themselves to secure a 31-24 victory to improve to
7-0. Bettendorf next travels to Clinton to take on the River Kings who
were the only conference team to beat them last year.
Bettendorf 6-0 after 41-6 victory over Burlington
October 2,
2010
The Bettendorf Bulldogs remained undefeated by improving to 6-0 with a 41-6 road victory over Burlington. The Bulldogs had a slow start and allowed the Grayhounds to take the opening kickoff and drive down the field to take a
6-0 lead. However, Bettendorf then got things going and after leading 13-6 at halftime, hammered out 28 second half points on the strength of their running game. The Bulldogs next return to the confines of TouVelle Stadium to face off against the Blue Devils of Davenport Central.

September 26,

Pat and Sandy Sprague along with Chris Sherman were honored
as this year's "Most Loyal Bulldog Fans" during 2010 Homecoming festivities. As

Bulldogs move
to 5-0 with 19-10 Homecoming defeat of North Scott Lancers
September 24,
2010
#4-ranked Bettendorf not only passed another litmus test by defeating a very
good North Scott squad, 19-10, for a Homecoming win, but passed yet another
litmus test in the Mississippi Athletic Conference. Although the Bulldogs
jumped out to a 16-0 lead, they allowed the the Lancers to score the first
points on them this season--a string of 17 quarters without yielding a single
point. However, Bettendorf still
remained unbeaten and improved their record to 5-0 while the Lancers fell to 4-1. To read the Quad City Times article about the game, click HERE.
Also noteworthy to mention is during halftime of Homecoming ceremonies, the 1960 squad was honored for their
achievements 50 years ago which include going 9-0 and being named the U.P.I.
Iowa State Champs. The '60 squad also extended their unbeaten streak
to 25-straight games and had a multitude of players named All-State. To

Bettendorf shuts out Spartans 27-0
September 17,
2010
The Bettendorf Bulldogs improved their record to 4-0 with yet another shutout by
blanking the Pleasant Valley Spartans, 27-0, in Spartan Stadium. Although
offense usually gets much of the glory, the Bulldogs' defense has been receiving
headlines this season and matched the 1998's squad of recording 4
straight shutouts to begin the season. Now, this year's Dawgs are now attempting
to accomplish a feat that has never occurred in 59 seasons of Bettendorf
football: pitching 5 straight shutouts.

Pleasant Valley, click HERE.
Next Friday Bettendorf faces North Scott--who also is 4-0--as part of 2010 Homecoming Festivities
which also includes the 50 year anniversary of the 1960 squad that went 9-0 and
were named the UPI's "Iowa State Champions" and the entire squad will be
recognized during halftime.

September 10,
2010
Resuming a game that was suspended the night before due to lightning, Bettendorf
improved its record to 3-0 with a 10-0 shutout over Davenport Assumption on
Saturday night. The Bulldog defense recorded its third consecutive shutout
and remains only one of two 11-man teams in the state to yet allow an opponent
to score a point. To read the full Quad Cities Times article, click HERE.

Bettendorf
thumps North, 51-0
September 2,
2010
The Bettendorf Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in MAC play after thumping the Wildcats
of Davenport North, 51-0, at Brady Steet Stadium. Bettendorf has outscored
its first two opponents 103-0 and are certainly making an early-season statement
about what their intentions are this season. The Bulldogs return home to
TouVelle Stadium next Friday, September 10th, to take on the Davenport
Assumption Knights.
"Why TouVelle Stadium Needs Field
Turf" module is now online
September 2,
2010
It's only a suggestion based on fact and if a certain school district 2 miles north
of Bettendorf is getting field turf, then maybe the 7-time Class 4A state
football champions should too.

INA Honorable Mention All-State lists found and now uploaded
September 2,
2010
It has been recently discovered that from 1990-2001, the Iowa Newspaper
Association also honored players with Honorable Mention All-State honors and
such that, many previously unknown Bettendorf players were named to the INA
Honorable Mention squad;
the only exclusion is the 1991 season as records for this season are missing.
Check the "Season By Season" module for the years 1990-2001
and in the near future the "Honorable Mention All-State" page will be updated as
well.
Bulldogs
trounce Davenport West, 52-0
August
27,
2010
The Bettendorf Bulldogs opened up their 2010 campaign by rolling over the
Falcons of Davenport West, 52-0, in Mississippi Athletic Conference competition.
While Bettendorf's offense was virtually unstoppable and helped the Bulldogs to
a 31-0 halftime lead, its defense was relentless
all night and limited the Falcons to only 26 total yards on offense in the game. To

The Bulldogs next taken on the Davenport North Wildcats--who lost to Muscatine
35-12--at Brady Street Stadium next Thursday.

year's loss still hurts as much now as it did then," said All-State lineman Brodie Berry
'11 in a recent interview to the QUAD CITY TIMES,

'05 was recently drafted 63rd overall by the Indianapolis Colts in
Friday's NFL Draft Second round and joins Tavian Banks '93 as the only
Bettendorf preps to be drafted in the NFL. Angerer was the most surprised
of all people by his NFL selection and said, "I can’t even remember talking to
anyone from Indianapolis about being drafted. They measured my wing span
at the combine, but that’s the last I heard from them.” Pat averaged 11
tackles per game this past season and will join former Hawkeyes Dallas Clark,
Bob Sanders and Mitch King with the Colts. Congratulations Pat!

Angerer to attend NFL combine
February 22,
2010
Former Bettendorf linebacker
Pat Angerer, a--oh,
come on, if you don't know all about him by now, you never will!!!--will be
attending the NFL Combine in Indianapolis this week. As posted on the
Quad City Times website by Don Doxie:
"Bettendorf's
Pat Angerer this week takes the next step in his quest to play professional
football when he attends the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. About 340
players will go through their paces for the pro scouts over the span of seven
days, including seven Iowa players who have hopes of being drafted - Angerer,
Bryan Bulaga, Amari Spievey, A.J. Edds, Tony Moeaki, Kyle Calloway and Dace
Richardson. Although Angerer is being projected as a late-round draft pick
by some, his agent, Jack Bechta, thinks someone is going to get a very, very
productive player in the draft. "This kid is a nasty and productive Big
Ten linebacker who plays with a sense of urgency," Bechta wrote in a blog on his
Web site. "He's fast, smart and tough, and his speed will make him an
impact player on Sundays."
All we can say is, "Good skill (not luck)
Pat!!!"

Sandeman shine in Orange Bowl, help Iowa win 24-14
January 5,
2010
Congrats to former Bulldogs Pat Angerer
'05 and Colin Sandeman '07 who helped Iowa complete its season with a
huge 24-14 win over Georgia Tech in the BCS Orange Bowl. While Angerer
collected over 10 tackles, Sandeman caught a critical touchdown pass that put
the Hawks up, 14-0. Sandeman, a junior, will return next season while
Angerer--who has been wearing Black and Gold for the past nine years--will be
playing on Sundays (and perhaps in Black and Gold if Pittsburg is smart!).
Iowa finished the season 11-2 and will likely finish in the Top 5 rankings.

iron and for helping Bettendorf go 8-2 this season. NOTE: These players
DO NOT have pictures on file; if
you can help in this regard, please send them

Angerer has 119 tackles this season for the 15th-ranked Hawkeyes, who close out the regular season by hosting Minnesota on Saturday.
The Nagurski Trophy is awarded by the Football Writers Association of America, which announced the finalists Thursday. Tennessee strong safety Eric Berry, Alabama defensive tackle Terrence Cody, TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes and Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh are the other finalists.
The winner will be announced Dec. 7 at a banquet in Charlotte, N.C
Hoover
elementary student gets surprise visitor from a Hawkeye
November 18,
2009
It seem as if former two-time
All-State linebacker and current Iowa Hawkeye Pat Angerer '05 is popping up everywhere--on
television, in the papers, and in opposing
player's faces--but that's what
happens when you're one of the best linebackers
in the nation. Angerer, a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award which
honors the top "Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year," showed his softer side when he recently
visited Alex Belk, a Hoover 1st grade student who was diagnosed with
leukemia last May. While receiving treatment recently, Angerer made a surprise
visit to Alex at Hoover Elementary and of course, brightened up his and other
kids' days. Way to go Pat!
Former
Bulldogs up for awards
November 16,
2009
Former
Bettendorf player and current Iowa Hawkeye Pat Angerer '05 is a
semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award which honors the top "Outstanding
Defensive Player of the Year." The announcement of the winner of the Bednarik Award will be made during
the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show that will be broadcast on ESPN
on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009. Three finalists for the award will be announced on
Nov. 23, 2009 and a second round of voting will take place at that time.
Angerer has helped lead the Hawkeyes to a 9-2 record and with a win over
Minnesota this Saturday, a possible at-large berth for a BCS game;
to view official link about the Chuck Bednarik
Award, click HERE.
Also, former Bulldog John Elkin '90 is 1 of 3 finalists for the
national "Linebacker of the Year" and "Defensive Player of the Year"
awards from Minor League Football News which will be handed out in Las
Vegas on Dec. 4. Elkin has been playing semi-pro football for 3 years and
most recently helped lead his team, the Iowa Eagles, to the World Football
League playoffs; to view that official link, click
HERE.
John also recently earned 1st Team All-American awards by the Midwest
Region's Coaches Poll and Honorable Mention kudos by Minor League
Football News. Ironically enough, both Angerer and Elkin wear #43, are
middle linebackers, and actually lived across the street from one another as John
is close friend's with Pat's older brother, Nate. A small world, indeed!
Ex-Bulldog
Angerer featured in Sports Illustrated
November 8,
2009
The recent November 9th issue of Sports
Illustrated featured the Iowa Hawkeyes and more importantly, former two-time
All-State linebacker Pat Angerer '05 who helped lead Iowa to a 9-0 start
and #4 ranking in the country before their loss to Northwestern today. In
the article, Angerer was singled out as a "...blue-collar defender with a mean
streak [who is the] leader on defense... [a] tattoo-covered, MMA-obsessed senior
middle linebacker who lives up to his name with his aggressiveness." Well,
you're talking about a guy from Bettendorf so...yeah! Angerer is the first
former Bettendorf player to be featured in Sports Illustrated since
Tavian Banks '93 and joins MMA guru Pat Miletich '84 who was in an
article last year regarding the rise and popularity of Mixed Martial Arts
fighting.
1960
All-Americans discovered
October 31,
2009
Thanks to Gary Rinehart '61, two more
All-American players have been added to the Archives as offensive tackle
Steve Grossman and halfback Scott Rocker were Honorable Mention
selections to the Wigwam Wisemen All-American squad which was the
greatest honor a high school football player could receive during that time
period. Both Rocker and Grossman helped lead Bettendorf to a 9-0 record in
1960 in such a dominating fashion that the Bulldogs were named the UPI's
"Mythical State Champions" that season.
Bettendorf loses in Substate,
17-14
October 29,
2009
Despite
their 4-5 record, Cedar Rapids Kennedy did what very few teams ever do:
beat Bettendorf at TouVelle Stadium. The Cougars outplayed the Bulldogs
and in the end, came away with a 17-14 victory. Bettendorf, who lost only
for the third time in two seasons, ended the season with an 8-2 record.
Although this wasn't the way the Bulldogs wanted to end the 2009 campaign, a
congratulations goes out to Head Coach Aaron Wiley and the entire squad for a
successful season. To read entire Quad City Times article, click

Bulldogs
derail Greyhounds, 27-14
October 16,
2009
On the
strength of their defense, the Bettendorf Bulldogs improved their record to 7-1
with a 27-14 victory over the Greyhounds of Burlington on a cold October night
at TouVelle Stadium. Up 20-7 at halftime, the Bulldog's offense sputtered
in the 3rd quarter but Bettendorf's defense rose to the occasion. The
Bulldogs still have hopes of at least sharing the MAC title, but to do so, they
not only have to beat Davenport Assumption (5-3) next Friday, but also hope that
conference leader Clinton (8-0) loses to North Scott. Regardless, the
Bulldogs will head into post-season play which begins on Wednesday, October
28th. To read the entire Quad City Times story, click HERE.
Dawgs down Devils
October 5,
2009
The
Bettendorf Bulldogs notched another victory with a 35-21 win over Davenport
Central at Brady Street Stadium on Friday night to improve their record to 6-1
and in lone second place in the MAC conference. The Bulldogs dominated the
first three quarters of the game and led 21-0 before the Blue Devils made a
comeback--at one point in the 4th quarter, the score was 21-14--but Bettendorf
turned up their intensity to put the game away. The Bulldogs return to the
confines of TouVelle Stadium to take on the Greyhounds of Burlington who are
3-4. To read the entire Quad City Times story, click HERE.

Former All-State Bulldog
saves man from drowning
October 3,
2009
It has just come to attention that former 1st Team All-State defensive end Ken Koehler '90, who is a
Scott County Sheriff's Deputy, recently saved a man's life; this goes to show
that not only can a Bulldog kick your butt, but they can also save it! As
a junior, Koehler helped Bettendorf's 1988 squad go 13-0 and win the state
championship as well as lead the '89 squad to an 11-1 record while not only
reaching the Semifinals, but also extending Bettendorf's winning streak to
36-games. To read

league foe. Up next for Bettendorf is the North Scott Lancers (3-1) who
most recently lost to Pleasant Valley, 17-14.

November
7,
2008
The Bettendorf Bulldogs were
upended by the Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors, 48-27, in the Quarterfinal game
played at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids. The loss, Bettendorf's first
since the 4A Semifinals in 2006, not only ended the Bulldog's season, but also
their 24-game winning streak which is the 4th longest in school history.
Although unfortunate, all Bulldogs should be proud of the 2008 squad for their
remarkable season. To read the full Quad City Times article, click

31-7, finish regular season unbeaten for 14th time in school history
October 23,
2008
For the 14th time in school history, a
Bettendorf football squad has finished the season undefeated. Bettendorf
capped off another great regular season by defeating rival Davenport
Assumption, 31-7, at Brady Street Stadium. On top of their 9th victory,
Bettendorf has now won 22-straight games and their last loss was in the 2006 4A
Semifinal game. The '08 squad joins other great
teams such as the 1958, '59, 1960, '66, 1980, '87, '88,
'89, 1992, '93, 2001, '04, '07 squads

Ex-Bulldog Angerer tears it
up in big Iowa win against Wisconsin
October 19,
2008
It's always noteworthy to
mention ex-Bulldogs and starting Hawkeye middle linebacker Pat Angerer '05
is one of them; the former two-time all-state linebacker helped Iowa to a 38-16
win over Wisconsin on Saturday after collecting a career-high 16 tackles (3
solo, 13 assists) and 2 interceptions. Angerer's 16 tackles is the most by
any Iowa player this season and his 4 interceptions this season lead the team;
Wisconsin quarterback Dustin Sherer now knows what QB Jason Krull of WDM Valley
went though in the 2004 state championship game!

team last November en route to a Class 4A State Championship, the recently
graduated senior just concluded his career as a Bulldog player in the

had an outstanding game and collected 3 interceptions--nearly four--to help lead
his South team to a 41-0 victory over the North squad. As well, Scott was
named the "Defensive M.V.P." for the South squad to cap his high school football
career as one of the best defensive backs to ever come out of Bettendorf.
Garrett now prepares to leave for college where he will play for Northern
Iowa--the alma mater of his father and former Head BHS Coach Randy Scott.
Good luck to Garrett in college and thanks for representing Bettendorf in the

both his mother and father, Diane and Mark, who both attended and played sports
for the Cyclones; Diane was a two-time All-Big Eight volleyball player and Iowa
State's "Female Athlete of the Year" in 1983 while Mark played football for the
