Semifinalists
To date, six Bettendorf squads nearly made it to the state title game yet bowed out in the Semifinal Round. The first time this happened was in 1989 when the squad was not only the
two-time defending state champion, but also riding the crest of a 36-game winning streak; their quest for a third-straight state title would mark the first time in Bettendorf's history
that a team fell short in the semifinals and following suite were the 1994, 1998, 1999, and 2001 squads. Most recently, the 2006 squad lost a heart-breaker to eventual state champion Cedar Rapids
Xavier when a go-ahead score (and sure victory) with less than two minutes
remaining turned into a 95-yard touchdown score for the Bulldog's opponent. Nonetheless,
the Bulldogs rebounded in 2007 with a state title and every semifinalist Bettendorf team should be proud of their accomplishments.
